Position Type: Job Type: Full Time
Temporary/Contract/Project

Job Category: Engineering
Hardware Engineer  Job Description:
We are looking to hire a Hardware Engineer immediately!

Position Overview and Definition:

The Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for designing, engineering, analyzing,

documenting and verifying complex custom printed circuit board assemblies in a multiphysics

solutions environment with an emphasis on high speed digital signal processing

hardware.

Functional Descriptions:

• Work with interdisciplinary systems engineering staff to evaluate and select high

performance digital platforms and architectures to support high data rate transfer

requirements for complex real-time imaging systems

• Design digital circuits consisting of an optimal configuration of high performance

Microcontrollers, Digital Signal Processors, Field Programmable Gate Arrays and

Programmable Logic Devices that will host and execute proprietary signal

processing algorithms that require fast (100 MHz) and wide (64 bit) data channels

• Working knowledge of multi-processor power supply conditioning and sequencing

requirements that result in robust start-up and excellent transient stability inclusive

of processors requiring multiple core voltages

• Work with DSP embedded software engineers to make optimal port and

communication channel assignment using both synchronous and asynchronous

high speed data transfer technology such that resulting architecture is adequately

partitioned for co-development, can be subjected to real-time debug and achieve

best case deterministic performance

• Execute memory mapped I/O schemes that enable high speed data transfer

methods between processing engines and DDR memory devices or equivalent

• Utilize IDE and JTAG based hardware debug and programming tools to verify

hardware performance and commission new hardware revisions

• Implement reliable high speed LVDS channels requiring controlled impedance,

optimal termination schemes, EMI containment and strict PCB layout design rules

as needed to meet overall system level performance objectives

• Select components, design circuits, perform schematic capture, manage printed

circuit board layout process, generate bill of materials and release controlled engineering drawings that capture design intentions, fabrication or assembly

methods, test requirements and acceptance criteria

• Accommodate and develop ICT or functional test methods that enable maximum

test coverage to achieve the corporation’s quality goals

• Coordinate the efforts of suppliers who have been contracted to manufacture the

corporation’s proprietary designs

• Network with integrated circuit suppliers, specifically IC applications engineers, to

swiftly optimize and verify the performance of prototype systems

• Utilize CAD/CAE tools including OrCad for schematic capture, Allegro for PCB

layout verification and analysis, SolidWorks viewers for mechanical component

verification and various PCB Gerber format viewers for PCB CAM file verification

• Publish acceptance criteria, work flow diagrams, engineering drawings that the

manufacturing engineering resources can use to construct standard operating

procedures for assembling and testing new products or solutions that achieve

design for manufacturability expectations

• Conduct and participate in design reviews and continual improvement projects

• Calculate MTBF for new hardware designs

• Work with electromechanical packaging engineers to develop reliable PCBA

interconnect schemes that often include flex circuits

• Work with mechanical engineers to implement thermal management solutions that

support product performance and MTBF goals

• Publish professional archiveable PCBA Verification Report that illustrates

conformance to circuit design goals

• Execute Design Failure Mode Effects (DFMEA) or equivalent process as needed to

assess and proactively manage and systematically reduce design risks to achieve

quality objectives

Professional Behaviors:

• Must be well organized and be able to work with minimal supervision

• Must be able to manage internal and external resources

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Excellent technical problem solving

Education, Training & Certification Requirements:

• BS in Engineering from an ABET accredited college.

• 10 years of relevant experience
